What do you wish someone had told you before you started?  What would you like to tell someone about to start?

What didn’t you know before you began that you need to know now?

What could help pre-beginners to accept advice that most don’t until it’s too late?  Almost too late?  Examples of important info, resources that pre-beginners are unlikely to recognize as such?
